Unknown early medieval coin - any idea what it could be?

    Hello Everyone,

Here's a coin I acquired recently which is a mystery to me. It's small, silver, only 10 mm, and weighs 0.47 g. It has monograms on both sides and is European in origin (I acquired it from someone in the Netherlands). I believe that it dates to the 6th-9th centuries but I can't find anything like it in the Carolingian, Merowingian, or Vandalic coinage sources. Most of these coins have a cross on one side or a portrait, and this only has monograms with Latin letters (so it does not appear to be East Asian in origin).

Can anyone point me in the right direction? It appears to be authentic, but if you believe it to be a fake, let me know that as well... I have appended a picture.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Regards,

I'd look in India, Sind, Habbarid dynasty c.1000 AD because it reminds me of one I have with completely different legends but I can not read a word of it. That could be 100% wrong.

Thanks Doug, I will check - the coins you mention definitely look similar.

Enrico, i can definitely see why you may think merovingian or vandalic, as they had similar monogram types in the period. However, based upon a couple of apparent symbols on yours i would agree with Doug where to look.
