    DW-coins Slave to coins...

I've had this coin for quite awhile now. Every year or so I post its photo on coin boards in hopes someone may recognize it. It's about the size of a dime and I believe it to be silver. It almost looks Celtic or even African, but that's only a wild guess. Please excuse the poor photo, I took this one years ago before I learned anything about white balance and lighting. If someone thinks they know it and a new photo would help, let me know and I'll get a better image of it.

    Thanks in advance!

I do not know it but would start looking in later medieval Germany or at least Europe assuming the coin is very thin (bracteate).

Have you ever taken it to a coin dealer or a coin show? You may get lucky and your local dealer will recognize it, or if you take it to a show you'll have a better chance of 1 out of all of the dealers there recognizing it.

As for me, I have no knowledge of ancients, so I cant help you. Good luck!

No, it's not thin, it's pretty think, maybe the width of 2 to 3 Lincolns. It's quite a puzzle, let me tell ya. Some day I'm sure someone will recognize it.... I hope.

It looks like the reverse should be turned a quarter turn counter clockwise. Other than that I have never seen anything similar in ancients, and would suspect like Doug medieval Europe due to the design.

I take it back, the coin extremely thin. I guess it's been awhile since I looked at it so this morning when I took it out of the 2x2 I was surprised to find it was thin after all. Here are some new photos. Thanks for your help and a solid lead!

The new photo now shows the side with the two portraits upside down. After Chris' correct statement that the reverse needed to be rotated, you switched the sides and went the wrong way with the rotation.
