I came across this coin, and I have no idea what it is...
it's definitely either German, Prussian, or Austrian, but I can't narrow down my results.
Anyone seen this before? And what's it worth?

    Austria Vereinsthaler (Thaler)

Should have King Franz Joseph on the other side.

    :)

Any ideas of what it's worth? I got it in a small lot of silver world coins,
and I only collect Russian coins so I'm not up-to-date on prices of other countries' goodies
It looks at least XF, if not aUNC...

Can you post a picture of the other side?

    :)

I'm at work right now and don't have access to the scanner,
but I'll get a scan of the other side when I get home.

I did some searching on ebay and found that this is actually a Bavarian thaler?
Here's a completed ebay auction (well, actually a Best Offer) for one from 1857:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/376-Bavaria-1857-1-Thaler-Uncirculated-/180628703415?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0e4f48b7

It's at least $18 in silver melt... Do these typically go for those kinds of prices?
I only managed to find 1 auction, and don't want to judge prices based on just 1 case.

That's why we need to see the other side.

You may want to search some other auctions , like heritage , or stacks .

Alexander Carl Herzog Thaler .900 fine Silver . Depending upon what the obverse looks like , value could reach $200.00 or even better . That is my opinion.

Since I can't get a scan, I just had someone at home read to me the inscriptions on the other side of the coin. It was "Maximilian II" on the left of the portrait, then "Koenig V Bayern" on the right side, so it's definitely matching up with that ebay Bavarian thaler. They also checked the edge for me for an inscription, but all they could make out was something like "GOTT SEGNE".

I guess we'll wait for my scan of the other side. Thanks :D

If that is the case, than the coin is worth considerably more money. My price reference is not current. The obverse you mentioned is a KM 447.1

A number of sites listed it as KM #582, but I don't have my references with me. I have both the 5th and 6th edition of Krause's 1801-1900, can't wait to get home and see what the stats looks like.

Sounds like you have more information now, than when you originally posted.
