In the past 1982,1983 and years around those the mints released sets that were only sold at the mints. Is there a centennial piece at the Denver Mint? any Denver residnets out there?

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by centennial piece - can you explain ?

Is there anything that they are selling at the mint only, i.e. souvenir set, coin, medal, that we cannot obtain through online sources. i know my parnets went to the mint years ago, and can back with some items. i think one was like the the mint sheild stamped o a penny planchet (they cannot find it now), couple t-shirts, and a blanket with the denver mint screened printed on it. I went to the Federal Resere Bank in chicago and recieved a back of shredded paper currency. I was wondering about fun stuff like that. Maybe one of the penny elongation stamping machine with 100 anniversary. Things like that, that we do not see untill they are commanding a premuim on Ebay.

    thanks Drew

Ahhhhh - now I understand. We do have a member who lives near Denver - GaryBurke. If he doesn't reply to this message send him an email or a PM and ask him.

I was there shortly after the first of the year. If there was something like that in the gift shop, I would have bought it. I didn't buy anything, so as far as I know, there wasn't anything like that there. But that was a few months ago.

    Denver Mint commemorative

I've followed this issue very closely. I live in Colorado and was born not far from the Denver Mint. Last year I wrote to the US Mint and all my congressional representatives requesting that they introduce legislation authorizing Denver Mint 100th anniversary commemorative coins. My propsal was for a set of six coins that would be EXACTLY like the six coins Denver minted in 1906, but with 2006 dates. I even had a letter to that effect printed in Coin World.

Ironically, the San Francisco Mint IS getting a 2006 commemorative coin. But nothing happened with my proposal. There was no action taken on it by Congress, and nobody in the public supported it :rolling:

So I might as well let the cat out of the bag.
Since the Denver Mint isn't issuing anything to commemorate their 100th anniversary, I am.

A couple weeks ago, I drove down to the Mint facility on a Sunday and took several pictures of the exterior. The security guards kept a close eye on me (from a distance) while I stuck my camera throught the fence to take pictures of the architectural details. I used those pictures to design this (which is getting ready for production in 39mm brass and 1 troy ounce silver):

I must say "that is an inpressive design." I wish the Mint was as pro-active as the collectors and enthusiasts. If you are going to produce a number fo these, please let me know. I would like to purchase a few, which might help recover your costs. drew@iatse26.org

If, you own those origional 6 coins, could you photograph and post for the Forum? I think all would appreciate. thanks again.

Very nice. But why not make it a $100 coin, for the 100 year anniversary?

Yes, that was my initial thought. But I liked the way the "20" looked, better than the "100". The two reasons for the $20 are: First, the design shows a $20 Liberty coin, the largest coin minted in Denver during the first year. And second, the medals will probably be sold for close to their symbolic face value (a bit less for the brass, and a little more for the silver).
