United States: 1860-O silver Seated Liberty dollar, No Motto, ex-Long Island Collection NGC VF30. Cert. #6323036-017. Numista-11472, Krause-Mishler-71. Mintage: 515,000. Ex-Heritage Auction 63179, Lot 46548, 14 March 2022. The Seated Liberty dollar (1840-1873) was never produced in quantities like the Morgan (1878-1921) and later types. This coin, of the No Motto subtype (1840-1866), was the first type of Seated dollar. The later With Motto subtype (1866-1873) had a ribbon with "In God We Trust" added over the eagle. Of the No Motto coins, this particular date, the 1860-O, struck at New Orleans, is the most "common", with barely over half a million coins (515,000) struck. Seated dollars tend to be somewhat expensive, and a Mint State example is effectively beyond my means unless I were to sell a number of other coins from my collection. Since I had to go with a circulated example, I wanted one with good eye appeal for the grade, and I think I accomplished that goal with this piece. It is pedigreed on the slab label to the "Long Island Collection", but I admittedly know very little about that pedigree. 049257
