United States: 1836 gold Classic Head half-eagle ($5.00)

    PCGS XF40. Cert. #43096849.

    Numista-40781, Krause-Mishler-57.

    Mintage: 553,147.

    Ex-Heritage Auction #132320, Lot 26081, 17 May 2023. Purchased in the slab.

This is easily the nicest Classic Head half-eagle I've owned- and due to my budgetary limitations, it is likely to remain so for quite some time. I've only had one or two previously. The best of those was an 1834 ANACS XF40 example, many years ago, but it was nowhere near the equal of this coin in eye appeal. I just like the color and wholesome look of this piece. I also love the style of the eagle on the Classic Head coins.
