This is an ultra common, gold plated, 0.3 gram modern token that is and has been all over eBay for a long time. Often thrown in as a freebie or deal sweetener, or sold for a dollar or two. You need only spend a few hours total in the world coins category on eBay to know this. And yet...

Mr. Vette can sell a common cent from your change for $5.

This is true, and also says something very sad about humanity.

Take a look at bid history for bidder 1***1; interesting.

Not that uncommon, especially with this seller. I don't think I could find another eBay seller that offers free shipping worldwide. I used to buy often from Vette simply because vast majority of eBay US sellers don't ship anywhere outside US. And this is why others sell way better grade coins for much cheaper than Vette. I know this would come as a total surprise for many, but there are people outside US, and some of them also collect US coins.

Yeah, this would be a red flag for most sellers, but sellers like Vette and Great Southern can be expected to have "regulars" who buy many of their coins from them.

I've spent most of my working career in retailing, and an early lesson was that how you sell stuff is more important than what you sell. Sellers like this have hit the combination which attracts and keeps buyers, and that in itself attracts more buyers. Nice gig if you can get it. :)

In many circumstances it's classic shill bidder behavior.

I haven't been selling on eBay for a while, but when I did I also offered free shipping worldwide. It was a bit costly, yes, but I also got much higher prices on my auctions and had many happy returning customers from all over the world.
Considering that I mostly sold non-US coins, shipping worldwide was a must. I often buy foreign coins from eBay sellers that will only ship within the US and resell for more internationally.
I really need to get my stuff organized and start up the auctions again :)
