I have had this coin for quite a while, and I can tell it is at least a 1959 or newer because of the reverse. However I have seen many error coins, blank planchets and coins struck on the wrong planchets this particular coin is a stumper for me. It looks like a nickle or a dime planchet by it's coloration, Could anyone help me out with an opinion?
I'm thinking it came in contact with some type of acid. The zinc core that is showing tells us it's 1982 or newer.
It couldn't be a nickel planchet because it wouldn't fit in the coining chamber. If it had been a dime planchet, the letters would be partially beyond the edge. I agree that it was probably dipped in acid. Chris
From what I can see, they have just covered the coin with solder. I cannot be positive of that, but I am positive that it is not a die error.
