My problem is every time I get enough cash to buy something I want, something breaks and I have to shell out said cash to get it fixed.

Right now, it's my car. :(

I like the low end stuff. With all my hobbies through the years, I save for something expensive, but I feel guilty for having more money saved for a coin than money I have saved for groceries.

  7. I ran into that problem as well. Let's just say my collecting interests were too diverse. I then tried to focus my collecting with some success, but then recently decided to develop a priority list of what I want to buy and how much I am willing to spend and pretty much stick to that now. Patience is definitely helpful in coin collecting. TC

:hail:patience im going to have to give it more focus. and pilkington I was like you for many years but now I find that if I can save for a higher end coin its an investment that is surely going to grow in time. But now I want even more patience to capture the really high end coins and abe and ltrain I wish your luck to change

Yeah, I know what you mean. I spent way too much money the first few months of this year, and then I saw this coin. I knew I had to have it. So I bought it - and it ruined my budget. I'm still trying to recover, and haven't bought a coin in a month (and have promised myself I won't buy another coin until my birthday in July). But oh my gosh, this coin was worth it.

I narrowed my focus down to just a couple of collections - if it does not fit one of those I am not messing with it. In the process of eliminating portions of my collection. Basically down to my large cent album, bust half album - middle date large cents. I have a few other coins I might liquidate, but I am holding onto them for now. Will have to see - I have a feeling what few coins I need will take me quite a while to find. It seems some of the prices went ballistic and I am not willing to pay them.

Everytime I come across 2 coins, one is , Let's say, MS66 for $180.00 and MS65 for $55.00, I always take the MS65 everytime.!! Where ever that big jump is between coin grades, I always take the lesser coin.:thumb:
Usually, there is no difference in the coins but someone's opinion, and I can't really see a difference between the 2 coins.
I mean really, come on, is their really a difference between MS69 and a MS70? NO, there is not.!!
And certaintly not the huge difference in price.!!

I thought I had this problem solved when I finally decided to concentrate on two main sets..morgans and my dads birthyear set, but I would stop in the coinstore and buy coins in a lower grade than I wanted just because I could afford them at the time..now I need to upgrade coins in two sets that aren't even finished...:headbang: fortunately my dealer gives me a pretty decent price so if I do decide to sell the coins I won't take a bath...who am I kidding I wont ever sell them..:D

Your best bet is to focus on what you want, And budget for that purpose only
No matter what else comes up!

    My feelings exactly!!

Like my "one day" I'll be a dealer. Then I realize I'd have to sell and my face gets flush and my knees shake. Just a bigger SDB for me I'm afraid :D
