What would be the best source for uncirculated Sacagawea dollars? The Mint website sells rolls, but they are described as being "circulating quality." That terminology worries me a bit. They just come wrapped in paper with the ends open...are they truly uncirculated? Is there a better place to get these where they are a bit more protected?

You can get them in many places but they are from bag or roll sets sold at the mint. Or you can just buy directly from the mint although it will cost a minimum of $70 plus shipping. If you need to get just a couple then go to a coin shop or e-bay.

Nope - unless you buy them in Mint sets.

Just buy the Mint sets from the Mint and break out what you want. Of course it depends on how many you want. Most people I know don't want them at all. One freind of mine hates them so much he gets as many from the bank as possible, throws them on the ground a few times an then spends them.

I'll tell you something interesting. The vending machines for the Long ISland Railroad here in Brooklyn is dspensing Golden Dollars for change, most of them in uncirculated condition, 2000's and 2001's, varrious mints.

I plucked a 2000 D out of circulation which I could swear is a proof coin. They are just the most beautiful Golden Dollars I've seen.

if one has a roll of uncirculated saqs, is it better to keep them rolled or thrown in a simple plastic case?

I don't know why. I think it is a great coin, much better than anything else the Mint has done in 75 years. Without being precious metal, it is really unique and the design fits the metal very well. the only downside is that they don't age well. They get very dark and dull without the charm of something like Silver.
