Hey guys, I just plucked a nice 1944 Washington from a teller's tray. Well, more like he saved it for me Anyway, it looks like it went from an old man's jar to my collection. It looks MS to me, but I want your opinions, I may be overgrading it. Here are the pictures: http://tinypic.com/useralbum.php?ua=Q50EhY8purWOhnw0ZPCMsQ==&as=update All the white lines that you see in Washington's hair is stuff on my camera lens. I didn't notice them until I looked at the pictures. White spots = dust, sorry There is a tiny ding on Washington's forehead and a couple teensy scratches on his neck. The reverse looks virtually untouched! The luster is brilliant and it looks better than any 1964 quarter that I've collected so far. Any ideas on the grade? I know it isn't worth much even in MS, but it's just nice to have a nice quarter from "circulation".
I doubt it. There are no cleaning lines on it. There is a lot of detail in Washington's hair that doesn't show up in the photos. djaeon I think what you're referring to is the toning. It has strange toning, all the lines are running one direction.
I betchya a shiny penny that it is a double die too! An interesting note regarding 1944 Washington Quarters is that they were all from a doubled master die. Take a closer look at the ear and nose of Washington's bust.
I got 4 rolls of new 2008 D pennies from the bank today for the cash register. I have no idea why they have new 08's.
Thanks for the info CRudolph! I think this is just a weakly struck coin. Not bad for 25 cents :thumb: Thanks all for the opinions guys. Not trying to beat a dead horse here :dead-horse: but what kind of numerical grade do you think it will get? MS64? MS65? There aren't many dings or scratches on it. The scratches are very light.
