Just wanted to let you know that there are still some good auction deals out there. I bought about a dozen uncirculated Franklin Halves at an estate auction at $3.00 each, nicely below melt.
good deal I think the way silver has been hovering I would leap at three dollar franklins. Even if silver took a plunge you still have the franklins which I really like anyway. It's a win-win deal.
No, they were all commons, 60s dates and some common Philadelphia 50s. But, right now, I will buy every silver half I can at $3.00 each.
Not bad for an estate auction. I love estate sales, garage/yard sales for coins. Greatest deals I've ever made were from them. Not the estate auctions though. Just estate sales. You have to ask if there are any old coins laying around in jars, cans, etc. because people don't like that stuff out in public.
Carl, do you just stop at any garage/yard sale? Or have you developed a "feel" for the ones most likely to have coins? Also, how do you locate estate sales as opposed to auctions? Are these normally listed in newspapers or on-line? Thanks.
Stopped at a yard sale myself last weekend and picked up a nice sized lot of old stamps for $3.00 , second little envelope I pulled out had 3 1912 Washington 2 cent stamps in it , have not looked any futher cause I do not know jack-o-lope bout stamps , but I did go buy a couple of books.
