I have had this low grade 38mm AE coin for 15 years and have been puzzled in trying to identify it. As you can see its in terrible shape but should have enough detail to reveal its identity. It has Ciliciarch's crown on one side and three emperors seated on the other[ similar to the inaugural issue of Balbinus]. Does anyone have any information on this piece.
I've searched my usual resources and must say I am stumped. I'm sure another collector will come by and help with the attribution. Very interesting coin.
Also stumped! The three figures make me thing of Septimius Severus, Caracalla (older left) and Geta (younger right) and the reverse seems obviously Tarsos, Cilicia. Of course 'obviously' is never safe and I am bothered by not having any reason to believe such a coin exists.
Looking at this at traffic lights so I need to be quick. Decius, Etruscus hostilian. Cilicia, anazarbus. these are the two I can think of. I’ll try to look later tonight when I’m stationary. Barry Murphy.
