Congress authorized the strike of a special medal for General Grant after a crucial early victory. I was under the impression that the US Mint still offers this medal---at least I remember it being in a printed listing a few years ago. Does anyone know anything about this?
I have a book on medals produced by the U.S. Mint, but unfortunately it only covers the first century (1792-1892). Sorry I could not answer your question.
