Rattlers have never been sealed and after thirty years who knows where it was stored. Shipping is only $4.00. Labeling someone with no proof is not very professional.
The shipping on all this seller's items WAS $50.00...he changed it just now. And I am not irrationally accusing this seller of AT'ing his coins...take a look at all the other coins he has for sale/has sold and see if you do not notice a pattern. I will remove the link though, as I do think I stepped out of line. EDITED to add: ...stepped out of line calling out the seller directly, but NOT stepping out of line calling out these AT coins.
Well, it looks like this thread has been torn to shreds! No eBay link. Nothing. As for the subject coin, its hardly what I would consider "toned in the slab" as much as I'd consider the color levels to have been messed with.
I've watched a few of this sellers' auctions, including this recent Ike: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-s-ike-...21?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4ac77c4c0d The pics are definitely messed with, but if you dive into his feedback one of the recent purchases (different coin) claims it was AT. Here's one from a little while back also: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Proof-Ike-Dollar-Monster-Rainbow-Colorful-GSA-/321129404341?ViewItem=&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBUAA:US:3160&item=321129404341&nma=true&si=do6V2aUTeRFQnOCAwIkx5kWK2mU%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Looking at the coloring on that one (the full GSA shot) it'd be hard to think it wasn't AT. I'm not necessarily attacking him, because it could very well be someone else's coins he's (re)selling, and honestly the colors are interesting. I'd probably say it's more art than anything else.
I am not presently able to see the images you have uploaded, but assume the toning looks contrived. While I do not doubt your claim, I can attest to the ability of coins to tone in holders without the introduction of any catalyst at all . . . even in new holders. I bought a white NGC MS65 Sesqui 50c in the Heritage FUN auction back in January, and it has since taken on a lot of dark toning round the rims on both sides. This is a brand new edge-view holder, so that dispells any notion that the material in an older slab would be responsible for the toning. I suspect the Sesqui was toned before dipping and submission to NGC, and that the holder does little to inhibit oxidation of the silver all over again. The coin is likely predisposed to retoning in the same pattern it originally had. If I think of it tonight, I'll shoot and post new photos of the coin for comparison against those taken in January.
