Ugly duckling 1937 Swiss 1 Rappen

    This is a coin I adore, but always was confused about it. These should be bronze coins, but this one is just so mottled that I just am not convinced it is toning. It is so nicely struck and preserved I just feel like its about time I share it here. Look at those shield lines!

    Certainly seems unique!

    That's wood grain toning, although not in the usual wood grain pattern.

    Honestly I'd throw it in my rejects assuming no one would want it, but if you like it, good for you.

    Piebald toning. That is a bit different in its own right.
    But like any toning, some yea, some nay. It is an interesting piece, I like it because it sets me to wondering how such a coin comes to be.
