ive only been collecting coins for about a year .had trouble trying to figure out doubled dies. Every time i thought I had em figured out you experts would prove me wrong. Not mentioning no names [COUGH} PADDYMAN. lol. but you was right .the other day i thought 4 sure i had an 1982 Zinc ddr. i looked at that and looked at it and just couldnt understand how it couldnt be.Well last night i was i found a very nice 1981 ddo cent. i had and when i went to look it up it was only showing that the 1 and 9 was only doubled.Man here we go again,i thought the whole obverse was doubled.i kept looking at the !9 then everything else and after a couple hours of that i finally seen something and a light bulb went off. i went and got my daughters play -doh .( dont Laugh},but i made me 2 ones and 2 nines. shifted one down from the other and then pressed them together and it looked like what i was seeing on that 81 cent .i could see their meeting points with each other after going on a variety site for an hour and doing this with different kinds of doubling i quit .(only because my 5 year old wanted her play -doh back. went and started looking at various doubled dies and what i was unable to see before in hours was only taking seconds.even the old smashed and wore out wheat pennies that i never could figure out how some people could see doubling.well i went and got this ugly 1969s i looked at a year ago and thought no way this could be a ddo. put it in a storage bin and tucked away .let me know what you think .dont go on first glance i hope im right cause if im not .i need to find a new hobby. maybe something in pottery.

You can also check this site:
    http://www.doubleddie.com/
Scroll down to Doubled Dies and it will explain how dies are made.
Then scroll down to Doubled Die Listings. Click on that and search for the denomination and year you want to check.
Also click on the box Worthless Doubling and you'll be able to see examples on Die Deterioration Doubling and Mechanical Doubling.
You learn much more by doing the research but members on Coin Talk will always be willing to answer questions.

Your coin is definitely not a DDO-001. Only a few dozen known to exist.
But I can not say it is or is not a DDO-002. You have to do that yourself.

You should also extensively study Mechanical Doubling and Die Deteriotion Doubling.

    Extensively.
Most people ignore or just glaze over that and prefer to categorize everything as doubled die.
