Does anyone think the coinshop I go to will have U.S. Philippine Coinage? I asked before but I had to leave before he could find any. Also, if you have any, post a picture of it!

Sorry at work and can't post pics, but I see them at LCS fairly regularly. Get one of each denomination! Very cool pieces.

It's hit or miss, most do not actively stock it. The few I have found some at, had to dig it out of the scrap silver bucket. The good news though; most do not know the value and will usually price it relatively cheap or by silver value. If you need help with a value on something just let me know.

They are usually available fairly commonly, especially the 40's commonwealth pieces. Shouldn't be too hard to obtain close to melt, especially in a higher grade piece like Collect89's example.

I agree, if you are going after the commonwealth pieces, go after BU examples. Most are very common.

I have a Filipino friend who gets most of his US/Philippines coins from a coin shop. I got a few too!

I'll be at the coinshop next week or weekend. I want to get my grandpa a 1938 Philippine Coin, thats the year he was born and he was born there. Same for my grandma, whenever she was born. (Not Sure!:D)

If you are after 1938 Philippine coins you will only have a choice between the One Centavo, Five Centavos, Ten Centavos or Twenty Centavos. All but the Five Centavos are relatively cheap in higher grades with the Five Centavo being around the $150 range in MS65. Also be on the lookout for the 1938-M RPD One Centavo. It caries a decent premium above the regular issue and is not widely known.

Ask your grandpa where and when she was born while you still can, you will want to know this someday for your family tree research. Perhaps.

    Best Regards,

George (old enough to be your grandpa)
