ok, guys I ran across the scans of this coin while doing some year-end cleaning and to be honest I can't grade Morgans for... well, let's just say I need some work at it.

ANY AND ALL OPINIONS ARE WELCOME

    what do you grade it?

Unusual looking for some reason? Toned powder look PR-67...

    Just my guess

no, Ben... no tricks... no contests

The kind of odd color is a brownish toning and is darker on the coin than on the scan. My thought is that it is due to years of improper storage. I got the coin from my Mother-In-Law. She had it in her jewelry box wrapped in tissue for years. She was a waitress during her working years and she once got this coin as a tip. That was really all she said about how she came about it, and alas that is all I can say about how I came about it.

One thing that doesnt show in the scan is the mint luster which is underneath all of the toning.

OH, don't get me wrong. I think it's a great looking coin and in STUNNING condition. If not a proof then MS-66/67.

Man, that is a real tough guy. I like it, a really nice Morgan, but I'll have to say AU-58 on it. Still, a very nice coin man. :thumb:

I would say MS-66 - maybe higher is not for the wierd toning which I think affects eye appeal. Nice strike - no marks on the cheek - could be higher.

    I'll agree with MS-66.

hmmm, sorry but I'm gonna have to say BB for environmental damage. Details look MS63ish.

I would say it's a really nice AU-58 except for the really ugly obverse toning. It looks like there is a little wear on an otherwise nice coin. But then, most MS coins look AU to me if I stare at them long enough.

Stop staring-- you are causing the wear!
Everyone knows that excessive staring causes slight wear on coins!
And then you also tend to see all of the flaws.

And every time she moved that jewelry box the coin slid around while inside that tissue paper. That's what caused all the frost to be worn off the higher points and is why the coin would grade no better than XF.

It looks like an AU55 at a minimum to me.

I'd buy that coin all day long for XF money, if I could.

Can you point out for my education where you see wear on this coin.

Even the highest point of the hair near the ear has the subtlest of distinctive qualities clearly struck and unmolested.

If it has decent mint luster, this coin might be even higher grade than 66 ... unless it is fake.

I see wear on the hair right above the ear.
