Id say if you have $500. Think about filling just a few of the tougher holes and worry about the easier ones later. Try getting some of the tough ones out of the way cause the easy ones wil be well.... easy.

I dont know about that. Im not sure how much they run but I dont think $500 would be enough for all 3. $500 might get you two of them. Perhaps get the toughest one from your list and then grab a few semi tough ones so you can still plug a few of those holes rather than just two. But I would deff suggest that you get your toughest one first.

I enjoy collecting most by defining a set to be what I call a set.

I'm a type collector, but rather than get three different closely-related types (three different seated dollars, with only minor differences), I personally prefer to get coins which are markedly different first.

For instance, a shopping cart of these three coins - a half cent, 3 cent silver, and 20 cent. Or whatever.

I enjoy it more that way, and get more variety.

Also... personally, I would rather have one really fabulous seated dollar than three which are beatdown. For me, grades matter a great deal. Not the number on a slab, but the actual coin.

ok, so this is what im thinkin. a liberty seated dollar for 175. both capped bust half dollars for 120. and the three half cents for 130. and then see if i can find a 20 cent piece for 75.

well. thats 500. And after that, its gonna be a while before i buy another coin.

my yn income is a little low. but how does that idea sound? could i get those coins for the prices i gave above?

I agree with 900fine's approach. Coins that are very similar won't be as interesting as a group of very different coins.

Personally, I would go for a nice 3 cent silver, 20 cent (1875-S) in G or VG (available for $100 or less) and a Trade Dollar. In that group you have coins that are no longer made and are each very interesting in and of themselves. If there was any money left after buying those three coins I would look for a '59 IHC.

BTW, those Seated Lib dollars are going to set you back quite a bit. You might consider buying those with holes until you can find a better, undamaged example. I bought a couple of holed SL dollars off eBay for my Holed Type Set (Dansco 7070) and the prices were not bad plus the coins were in nice condition other than the holes.

    monkeyman -

See what you can find at Long Beach and feel good about buying. I know some dealers who will be at Phoenix and we'll see if maybe we can't find some of the other tougher ones there. For a price you can afford ;)

Man, I'd go along with the other advice, get the toughest ones you can. Best of luck man, and post pics of the coins you get! :thumb: ;) Best of luck.
