Hi all, Long time lurker and I thought I'd post this Ike. Found it at a small local coin show ln a binder and grabbed it for two dollars.Maybe some of the Ike guys would be nice enough to chime in on it.Not only is this my first post, it's my first attempt at photographing a coin(I'll have to read more on that subject). Thanks, Brian
Definitely a Type 2. A bit of a weak strike but a good coin none the less. Notice the flaws on the cheek which is one of the high points? Typically folks refer to those as bag marks when in reality they are annealing marks which were not struck out of the coin due to either a thin planchet or just a tired press. These are further validate by the chatter near the edge between the Motto and the L in Liberty. Typically these edge areas reflect a weak strike on the IKE. The reverse looks nice and original and a best guess would be an MS62? Congrats!
Thanks 19Lyds for your assessment, I was hoping you or Rick would provide some insight. I bought a CAPS album for Ike dollars and it has a spot for the Type 2. Thought I'd have a heck of time finding one, but found one at a flea market. It has circulation wear but not terrible looking. Then came across this one, so it replaced the fist one. I'd like to find a 71d FEV, but I bet thats going to be a booger. Thanks again, Brian
Awesome find!! That'd be a 63 on a good day if it grades clean, maybe net it to 62? Either way that's a sweet cherry pick to find an UNC Type 2!!
Thanks all for the info.I checked completed auctions for MS62 to MS64, prices from 70 to 200 plus. Been debating(with myself) to send it off or not? But for now I'm pretty content having it sitting in the album. Thought I'd go ahead and show the first one I found at a flea market for a buck fifty. Tried a different photo "technique", see what happens?.......Thanks again!
Cant beat $.50 over face for that one. Condition wise nothing more than an album filler, but still a cool find. Is that a dimple inside the O of Dollar? If so, that'd be an August.
