I found 14 1979s Proof Halves roll searching this weekend, and was trying to identify them as type one or two. I couldn't find a good comparison website, so here are a couple of pics. I'm sure someone here can help me.

I am pretty sure I am correct on this. If I am wrong, someone will come along and correct me. All coins (at least from that era) used the same mint mark punch - cents through dollars. Lincoln Resource has some excellent pictures of the mint marks. Look here; http://lincolncentresource.com/San_Fransisco_Mintmark_Styles.html

Nope, there are 2 different mint marks for 1979 and 1981. Click Here

What you have pictured is a type 2.

    That's great!

On The Bay, the type 2s were going for around $20 instead of a couple of bucks for type 1s. The 14 I found are barely circulated, so, they will be discounted somewhat, but I was sure hoping for type 2s!!

    Thanks for the info! :D

How certain are you that this is type II? A friend told me this was the "closed" type of mint mark, which I believe is type I. I need to know as I was going to sell several of them and there is a big difference in price....

    THANKS!

You have the coin in hand and can tell far better than I. Just compare it to those in the link I provided. Type 1 is usually just a blob - yours isn't.
