What was done to the coins?

In both cases the coins were cleaned as lightly as possible. Both coins are ground finds.

Just my opinion but you should have left them as found. They just don't look as nice all cleaned up.

Acetone? I don't know how it effects value but I like the after.

I could not disagree more, but that is the joy of life. Everyone owns their own opinion. The VA half cent looked like crud in hand. Very dull, very black. In both cases the before pics are taken by the ebay seller and trying hard to put them in their best light. The brittish half cent is in black and white so you dont see how green it started o

EDTA would be my choice for a coin hard encrusted with Verdigris (you can get it on ETSY cheapest as a product by "Making Cosmetics") over acetone.

I am a less is more guy.. so in this case, no, nothing chemical. Just physical, the same kind of techniques you see Roman Coin guys use. I also recommend a little Renaissance Wax at the end, great product. The approved product of the British Museum.

This is a coin that I needed that approach for.

As you can see not everyone agrees, but I am with you, I like the after better....

Now I think depends on the coin - the design/what it's made of. The 3rd one looked better before imo :)
