Hello everyone, coins from NGC and ANACS has been completed and on the way to my home. I will post with pictures when I have them in my hand. Ok, I have question about Morgan VAM collectors. I wonder if there are forums that VAM collectors gather to discussing and buying them? Another question regarding to light bulb. I just learned that ECO blub is bad way to detect luster on coins as it may show more luster than normal. Which light bulb will show correct measure of luster on coins? I wonder if LED bulbs is good? Your feedback on this topic will be appreciate. Thanks.
http://www.vamworld.com/ Have fun with your VAMs at vamworld. IMO a halogen light bulb is great for detecting hairlines & luster (and breaks in the luster). The industry standard is a regular Tungsten 60 Watt bulb.
Thank you for point out vamworld. I did went there few time, but I was focus on dates and variety. I didn't know it already have message board. Regarding to halogen light bulb. I know it typical being a real hot lamp. Is there a specific halogen light bulb that will still being a manageable heat. I don't want to sweat while looking through coins. That's why ECO bulbs is excellence choice to use during summer. (I can't afford using AC to compensate the heat from halogen light bulb)
Standard recommendation is to not use halogen bulbs as they are too bright and focus the light too much, but instead to use incandescent bulbs when examining coins. I always preferred GE Reveal bulbs, 75-100w. At that wattage you will want the light about 2 ft away from the coins. And when you examine your coins, there should be no other light sources in the room, including daylight.
