Father was holding out on me. He has quite a few coins so I'm going to post them every few days. How would these two grade? They appear uncirculated but then again I'm new to this.

I also have this in "what's it worth".

Nice coins-i'm not too swift at grading yet but those look to be at least AU-50+ and have a relatively low mintage.(3.4 milllion) i would guess somewhere between 250-300$ or more(each). If they were mine i would pick out the better looking one and consider sending it in for certification.

Both look the same to me. Color difference is due to me not placing coins in exact same position under the lamp.

I'm with you on this one Lost, as I don't really see any wear on either of these coins. In fact, they both look as good as any of this type of coin that I have seen, and would give both a MS grade. I would suggest you have them slabbed if you intend to sell them, as they will definately increase in value.
Great coins and I'm thinking I would be wanting to keep both of them, if they belonged to me. :)

I appreciate all of you helping me to grade them. I plan on getting the better ones graded professionally. Who is best in accuracy and not cost me a fortune to grade -- PCGS, ANACS, NGC, other? Also, what is my cutoff for grading -- AU or better or by $$$ value (this is a gold only question)?

The cheapest is going to be ANACS...I would go for ANACS or NGC.
As for the cutoff for the grade...don't worry about....just send it in.
If they agree with us it will come back fine....if they see something we don't they will grade it right.

The incused indian gold, both quater and half eagle, are among the toughest coins to grade. They are also among the most commonly counterfeited.

My guess is they are real and high AU or low MS, but I would send them to a TPG to validate them. ANACS will do a good job, and they are relatively cheap, not to mention you'll get one of their new slabs.

    Take care...Mike

I gotta go along with Leadfoot - these things are buggers for me to grade :desk: I also have to agree with his grade estimate as I think they both could go either way - AU58 to MS63. I'd have to see the coins in hand.

I agree with Doug, these things are a pain to grade. ANACS Would be your best bet. Good Luck! :goofer:

I was just looking at a MS 64 NGC at my dealers yesterday and it had dull luster....where (from this photo at least) this coin has nice luster.

They do look good. Being new I don't know what I'm talking about but they sure look like I would think a gold goin should look like.

Those are beautiful :) and both look Mint State to me.

I would send to ANACS... I used to use NGC but will be using ANACS from now on.
