Here are two coins that you rarely see. 1873 no arrows CC and the king of CC’s the 1889. I received a small inheritance from my late grandpa who got me into coin collecting. I can think of nothing better to buy with it than one of these. Grandpa would like that. What one would you choose? I’m leaning that way too

I think the half has had the original skin stripped off probably by dipping so I would avoid that one. The Morgan looks much more original and I would gravitate towards that after a careful look at the cheek & jaw area (toning? Marks-- how deep?)

The half has a cleaned look to it IMO. I like the Morgan better.
But buy the one you like.

For this many dollars, I'd say look for eye appeal as well as rarity.

That’s the plan, but it doesn’t hurt to ask the experts on here. As for rarity, the half is much more rare than the dollar. Pcgs estimates 200 surviving

If I had to make that choice, I’d buy both of them. Even if it meant taking out a small loan at the bank.

I like the way you think. I’m trying to keep myself to one.

My personal choice would be the half dollar even with the cleaning. "Rare" Morgans you see all the time. Rare seated halves you don't.

Is everybody else convinced that the 1889-CC is authentic? It looks kind of blobby to me, especially the stars, but it doesn't have the "trailing" effect that I'm used to seeing on fakes, and I don't have much experience evaluating heavily-circulated keys (or, to be honest, any others).

Looking at mintages and the red book prices I just can’t pick one. Put one or both on hold of you can and make payments. I’d find a way to get both. :)

It’s not as high of number as it could be for both. $2250 for both

That to me is buy both, no questions asked. I might have to skip a month or two of buying but I think it would be worth it do so. Both are nice. Best wishes on your decision and be sure to speak with the wife. :)

Thanks for the help. This is why I like to ask questions on here. My wife is ok with it. It’s my little inheritance from grandpa to do as I see fit with it.

My wife doesn’t care what I spend on coins, rocks or fossils as long as it makes me happy. She keeps saying she’s going to spend them when I die but I know she’s teasing. She knows that I have some expensive ones. All you need to do is buy what makes you happy and enjoy them. Please post what you buy. Would love to see them after they are in your possession.

I also prefer the seated half due to being much scarcer than the Morgan, but the rather unnatural look is a minus.

I still like to hold and view mine whenever I can:).

I have the same question. I just spent 5 minutes looking at the Morgan. Something is just not right, but nothing bad is jumping out at me. I would have to compare it to known good examples.
