Although the motifs on these bricks are not my main interest when it comes to collecting this type of Roman artifacts, I could not miss the opportunity to buy these two bricks from an old collection.. LEGIO VII CLAUDIA, 40x28 cm/15.7x11 in, and 11.7 kg/26 pounds The motif on the second brick is 6 petal rosette...A symbol of Venus? 35x27cm/13.7x10 inches, 7.7 kg/ 17 pounds...
Outstanding! I would have obtained them, too, if I had the opportunity. Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
Very interesting! Are you aware of Andreas Pangerl's page on Legionary bricks like those? I'm familiar with it for his "Museum of Roman Countermarks," but I've also sometimes found the bricks useful when trying to work out legionary countermarks on coins: Legionary and Auxiliary Stamps on Roman Bricks there's at least one LEGIO VII CLAVDIA stamped brick similar to yours shown on his page here: https://www.romancoins.info/Legionary-Bricks1.html Looks like he may have other relevant pages on his site, linked in the far right column here: https://www.romancoins.info/Content.html
I don’t know anything about them, but I’ve always found those bricks with the legionary stamps to be interesting. The rosette is nice, too.
