Around here we have coin shows almost every weekend and they are basically getting a little boring. Last weekend the rather larger one had about 80 to 100 dealers and was jsut to crowded so not much in the way of good deals but since I knew some of the dealers I did manage to spend a few hundred dollars. Then the show today, Sunday the 18th was great for me. For some reason there were only about 20 dealers at this show, not many customers in the early morning as usual. The dealers that were there must have gotten a little nervous because they were dropping prices to about the 25% off level. I managed to get rid of about $1,000 but came away with a great amount of coins I wanted. Not needed, just wanted. As usual parking and show admittance was free, only about 10 miles from my house and in a straight line. I asked many of the dealers what they thought of the new dollars and most just gave me a nasty look.
Prior to leaving for the coin show I happened to catch on TV a story on the news about the new Dollars and coins in general. Of course this is the news media so who knows is any thing is real. The announcer said there is now about 160 million coin collectors in the USA and mostly due to the great success of the state quarters. They interviewed a few of the artists that did the disigns. Stated it cost the government $0.09 to produce each quarter and it cost $0.017 to produce a cent coin. They showed the Piles of new dollars being dumped into bins at the Mint. They showed someone passing out the new dollar coins to kids free and then they showed how they fit into a parking meter in New York. The announcer said the will be used in laundromats, car washes, parking meters and many other places and are well accepted by everyone.
At that I left for the coin show.

We shall see I guess. I'll believe it when I see it.
