Two Error Pennys found 1st 1940s weight 2.5g

Hi everyone, Ive been looking and looking and now im stumped, going through some new rolls i found a couple of nice wheats , but then two stuck me as odd , the first one is a 1940s, it felt weird and was a dark red in color, almost as if someone painted it long ago, when i rolled her on her side it appeared to be alot thinner, well since i had my scale already out after weighing some 83's i put this one on, and iwas shocked, first she weight was 2.6 , and of course i said somthings wrong well i recalibrated, found another 1940 weighed that first and like the others it was 3.1g i put back the 1940s and again 2.5 / 2.6,

its the same circumfence as the penny but thinner??? any ideas??

Can you post a photo? How worn is it?

 

I will try a get better pics, shes not worn to bad, lettering and date is sharp, i thought maybe somone peeled back the edging but its clean?

 

The answer to the coloring has to do with oxidation. I had the same questions a while ago:

The color of the cents do vary, depending on conditions they are stored, handled ect,

and if someones bored and wants to plate them or paint them, But

What has me is that this cent should be at a weight of 3.1grams or around there depending on wear ect, but instead its coming into a weight of 2.5/2.6 g,

I have been trying to find similar coins and or erros for the last couple of hours, and mostlly what i come up with is in wrong plancett struck. such as on a dime or for non us currancy.

But cant find one for a 1940s,

From the picture above, it looks severely worn. The date looks like maybe a weak strike, or again very worn.

 

I have brought the coin to a coin shop to check against there scales, The weight of the coin is 2.6g , We compared the coin to that of the smae year a really worn oberse and reverse. The 2nd coin had a weight of 3.0gr, It is possible beleved is was struck on a forighn planchett, Possible A cooper plachett meent for Belgium.

The serch continues, There are a couple of 1942s registered with NGC of being 2.6 and 2.5 also with same wear as this coin, they are labeled as Forighn plachet.
