This is my first post here, so hi to everyone.

I have two coins with a similar "blop,," of metal, one, a 1998 on the obverse, and a 2007 Lincoln on the reverse. The first coin, one of the "9's" is completely filled in with a tiny glob of metal. on the 2007, there a "glob," inside of the last column at the top. The picture doesn't show the definition, but it looks defined, and even has lines running through it, almost like an eagle's foot. The "glob," is the same color red as the rest of the coin. Any way, I was wondering what your thoughts are on both of these coins, and if they are errors, what kind of errors? Any thoughts? Much appreciated.

Welcome to the site! The 1998 coin had a damaged Obverse die. The “post” inside the nine has broken out this then allows the center to be filled in. That die damage is called a chipped die or broken die. Thus your “blob” was formed. Another name for this is a filled numeral in this case a filled nine. You can have a filled B, G, O any non open letter or number. The blob in the columns I’m not sure the image is inconclusive. Better pictures would help, full coin shot. Both Obverse and Reverse please would help. Nice spotting on the filled nine I know it’s just a minor error and only worth a cent but it’s cool because YOU found it! That is now a solid start to your filled digit collection. KEEP ON LOOKING!

Hi 352sdeer, It is really awesome finding little irregularities. Around ten years ago I spent a lot of time searching coins, and I put all of the "could be," coins in one coffee can. It's filled to the top, and I was going to roll them and take them to the bank, but couldn't do it without checking them all again. I'm actually finding several that stand out more than they did when I checked them years ago. It's so much fun, I don't know why I stopped searching! I guess life has a way of getting us busy with other things.

I scanned both sides of the coin. Not sure if it helps.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at these coins and for your gracious response.

[IMG] I tried to take a photo with my magnifier over my phone camera lens. It is a little more defined.

I found one online just like it. It's a die chip. The image looks almost exactly the same.[IMG]

Yes that is a nice die break/chip it would seem. Thanks for the image it’s better. I hunt a least half an hour a day. Here is what I found for cool stuff in the last month out of some bullion rolls I’d made a couple of Years ago and some bank rolls I went thru. About half a box. This is just the error stuff. Nothing major except 6 or 8 nice wavy steps coins I found! I’ve got the others at a friends house he’s drooling over them and trying to come up with a trade right now. Remember you can’t find um if you dont look. NICE WORK KEEP IT UP!!!!

352sdear, Very nice finds! The eye strain is worth it! Do you keep all of your finds, or do you sell them? I'm amazed at what you can find just searching coins. I have about 30 silver dimes, several silver quarters, I've had a few coins graded, years ago. They weren't error coins, Although, one coin I sent in, a Susan B Anthony, had a small date, but I didn't know that you had to specify the error back then. I just figured they'd catch it.

Here's some of my collection. I bought a small box of foreign coins for 5 bucks at an estate sale, and all of the coins were silver. The rounds, I bought over the years. I've filled up two Lincoln cent books from 75 and forward, and one 1941-1974 with all coins I've found searching. Most of the coins are bright red.
I've got the earliest Lincoln coin book, (1909-1940) About half way full, but they are not as nicely preserved as the other two books.

Thank's so much for sharing your pictures. This site is awesome! There are so many knowledgeable coin people here! i haven't gotten my old coins out in years. Thank you for inspiring me!

@paddyman98, that is very cool! Most of the time when I think I've found an error, I can't find anything to match up with it. I think this is the first coin I've found that actually matches up to others with the same date.

Thank you for sharing the links!
