Did anyone have done this method? I am sure it's cheapest way to take picture of coins because iPhone have automatic correct image to sharpest image and doesn't require light adjustment. Here's video. What do you think?
Here is a commercial solution that is used often in quick photos of jewelery and gemstones, and has more varieties ( click on Original Nimbus). The sides are translucent to allow great lighting with little hot spots. http://www.clouddome.com/store/nimbus_dome_light_diffuser.shtml Jim
I posted a link a couple weeks ago to a camera app that works pretty good Camera+ http://campl.us/ may want to check it out to since it also makes a great regular camera.
Keep in mind that the iPhone 5 is still just a 8megapixel camera. Detail is is the megapixel count. When you try to blow up the magnification, each pixel will become more distinct, and although the resolution, ( most important for magnified objects) is still 8 mp, starts being blocky (pixelated), even though the software will try to smooth it. If you have a iPhone anyway, it might be an improvement over current photos, but do not buy it for photography, it will be like the 3-5 mp USB microscopes. It will never equal a 18mp or better point and shoot, or especially a similar resolution SLR,
Thank you for link. My previous thread was based on 5k to take a picture of coin. This time, the cheapest possible to take a picture of coin. I found the video and I want to see if it's a doable. As you mention later that the biggest factor is megapixel quality on iPhone may not be good during blow up the magnification. My wife has iPhone and I have Galaxy S3. I can try both of them to see who's winner. Circus: Thanks for the link to cool app. The best about that app is $1.99. green18: Do you have the title or link of his thread?
I love the app and haven't used the stock camera app since I installed it. The editing app in camera is sort of neat too. I don't use it I really like the photoscape for the round cropping features and the joining. Photoscape : Free Photo Editing Software (Photo Editor) Download It has a lot of the features my two purchased photo handling programs never had.
I understand the point you are making, but how do you explain the fact that he was using an iPhone in the demonstration? That seemed to look pretty good and make it worth the effort to make this little stand., at least it will be a cheap improvement over not having a stand and free hand shooting pictures On a side note, that new Lumina phone with like 48 Megapixels sounds promising. Bet iPhone steps it up now that the new Windows phone is on the market
Please tell me what an SLR is? My TLA dictionary does not include that one. Best Regards, (photographically challenged) George
I just downloaded Photoscape and really like it. You're definitely right about the round crop feature.
Even though I have two Macs, I have an old Toshiba PC laptop in the closet that I keep specifically for Photoscape and round cropping (as far as I know Photoscape is not for Macs yet). Best Regards, George
The camera was not designed for accurate high definition photography, it was designed for human pleasing magnification. But the same software which does digital ( not optical) magnification , does so by using a smaller sample of pixels, enlarging each and then smoothing the edges so it doesn't seem pixelated. It does this by blending the edges of the pixels . Great for girlfriend 25 ft. away, but when done on such as coins, artifacts ( artificial image) it can appear one has a DD or doesn't have a RPM. You can't depend on the "truthfulness" of the image. Basically it is like being the apple version of photoshopped. So yes they will look good, but you can't see the 'acne' so they will all appear much nicer grade with fewer errors or varieties...or new unknown ones
