Cyprus belonged to Great Britain untill 1960 when it become an independent state. It is a small island in the Mediterranian sea with the populatian about 790000. In 1974 Turkish military troops occupied a nothern part of the Cyprus island and in 1975 was found a self-declared state: Turkish Federated State of the Nothern Cyprus. Turkey is the only state which admited TFSNC. Since 1983 TFSNC has the new denomination: Turkish Republic of the Northern Cyprus. It is a very small self-declared country (about 3355 sq.km.) and population about 265000. But it's a rather popular place of the rest for the European tourists.
Thanks for the info. I had just assumed that they used Turkish coins since they aren't listed by Krause. In this case I agree with Krause. These belong in unusual world coins though.
Agreed, that is not a coin. It is a piece from a set of eight; see here for example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380255829573 None of these pieces actually circulate in Northern Cyprus. The Turkish money which is used there has six coin denominations only, with the 1 lira piece being the highest one. Nevertheless, a nice design, so if you did not pay too much for it ... Christian
