Recently resumed coin collecting and to my chagrin discovered that I have several rolls of coins in M.Meghrig tubes that stuck in the tubes. Anybody have any ideas on getting them out without ruining them. Most are uncirculated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum Bill. Putting them in a freezer for a couple hours should expand the tube enough to get the coins out.

Well I'll be darned, i always thought that to expand something you heated it, and to reduce something, you cooled it off. Seem like I tried heating a metal tube once and putting another tube inside that had been cooled. When they both became room temperature they couldn't be separated.

I guess you learn something every day. :thumb:

Caution; Will Robinson!! For those of you who followed "Lost in Space"

By placing coins in a cold environment and removing them into a warm environment will cause "condensation" water vapor that has reformed as H2O on the surface of the coin...be wary of this...

One might suggest using a pan of hot water to partially immerse the coin tube (if it is plastic) therefore causing the molecular structure to expand while heated to remove them. CAUTION; Will Robinson, toomudh heat could cause toning of the coins...be patient and moderate temps and allow the material to equilibrate.
