After two weeks haitus, we now continue our quest of looking at the Thaler coinage of the 1,800 Free States in existence before the German Empire. Our pursuit brings us to the last German Free State listed under the alphabetical letter "E" which is Erfurt. Erfurt is the capital city of Thuringia and the main city nearest to the geographical center of Germany, located 100 km SW of Leipzig, 150 km N of Nuremburg and 180 km SE of Hanover.
