In 2008 the Sultanate of Darfur released an attractive set of seven coins that includes a bi-metallic 500 Dinars, and some unusual shapes to help the sight impaired. All coins feature African wildlife. The non-circulating coins were the first modern coins authorized by the embattled sultanate who is engaged in tragic war waged to regain its independence from Sudan.
