Remarkable Celebrity Coin - John Wayne!

Just discovered a remarkeable Legal Tender coin that features John Wayne on it. The coin is being offered by Ken Potter, renowned expert on United Staes Error coins. This posting is only here to inform you of the coin's existance and is not an endorsement of the coin, Ken Potter, or its price, nor is it a disapprovement of the coin, Mr. Potter or the price.

Ken Potter's website explains

New technology has made this exciting coin possible, which honors one of America’s greatest icons, John Wayne, in full blazing color. It represents an actual U.S. Government issued Commemorative Stamp which has been made an integral part of a legal-tender Somali $5.00 coin.It is the first time a stamp has ever been officially incorporated into the design of a coin! The stamp is not "pasted on" but has been permanently embedded in the coin and is fully protected. The coin has been struck in beautiful Proof Quality and in .999 pure silver clad. The obverse is in magnificent full color. This Legal Tender Commemorative Coin is a large, impressive 48mm diameter which is nearly 10mm larger in diameter than a U.S. Silver Dollar! The John Wayne coin is a very limited edition.

Here's the coin:

Hope you enjoyed seeing the coin.

When did John Wayne go to Somalia?

Attention Moammar Khadafy:
He did make a film in Libya in 1957, "Legend of the Lost".

Hello willieboyd2:

Don't think he did, but his movies did and Fijians loved them and lots of other American westerns.

Now whether the term "legal tender coin" actually means anything in Somalia ... they have not had a central government for 20 years there. Also, "in .999 pure silver clad" sounds somewhat odd to me - guess they don't want to emphasize the key word "clad" too much, hehe.

Still an interesting concept to put a stamp on a coin and then make that combination a more or less official issue. Thanks for making us aware of that! By the way, John Wayne fans may also be interested in the Cook Islands Hollywood Legends series ...

This is the same country that condones (by doing nothing to stop) piracy and the theft of millions of dollars of goods being legally shipped on the high seas. Not to mention their murder of innocent civilians. I wouldn't contribute dirt to them, let alone money. I'm far less excited by this offer than the seller is. Just sayin'.
