    This week's treatse on Millennium Coins takes us to the countries occupying the Holyland:


    EGYPT:


    I couldn't find photos of 2000 coins. One coin minted (2,500) by Egypt in 2000 is/was a 35mm Silver (.03472 oz. ASW) Pound commemorating "National Insurance Company Centennial." Obverse: Value. Reverse: Ancient Seated Figure with '100.'

    A 37mm Five Pound Silver (.4079 oz. ASW) Commemorates the "Centennial" with same design (obverse, reverse).


    IRAN:

    Copper-Nickel 100 Rials

    Minted in 2000 with thick numerals and denomination honoring "The Shrine of Hazarat Masurma."

    Three 30mm Silver (.4282 oz. ASW) New Sheqel Commemoritives were minted (prooflike for collectors) in 2000.

    1). "Anniversary Independence Day." Obverse: Denomination. Reverse: text, "Love thy neighbor as thyself" (2,516 minted).

    2). "Biblical - Joseph and his Brothers." Obverse: Denomination. Reverse: Joseph standing before his brothers charging with sheaves of wheat (2,249 minted).

    3). "Wildlife." Obverse: Acacia tree. Reverse: Ibex. (2,000 minted).

    A Proof Gold (.1001 oz.AGW) New Sheqel was minted (794). "Wildlife." Obverse: Acacia tree. Reverse: Ibex.

    Two 38.7mm Silver (.8565 oz.ASW) 2 New Sheqalim Coins were struck for collectors.

    1) "Anniversary Independence Day." Obverse and reverse designs same as preceding coin 1 (2,258 minted)

    2). "Biblical Joseph and brothers." Obverse and reverse same as previous New Sheqel Coin 2 (2,100 minted).

    One 30mm Silver (.5000 oz. ASW) 10 New Sheqalim Proof Coin was Minted (700) with the "Biblical" Scene on Obverse.

    One Gold (.5000 oz. AGW) 10 New Sheqalim Proof struck (794) with "Independence Day Anniversary" theme and design.


    JORDAN:

    Since Jordan's Currency (paper and coin) circulate freely in neighboring countries. including Palestine, it takes on many denominational names: I,e., Qirsh: Piastre: 10 Fils.

    A 40mm Brass 5 Dinars (no photo) Celebrates the "New Millennium and Baptism of Jesus" with a Baptism scene on reverse.

    Two 40mm Silver (0.9957 oz. ASW) 10 Dinars has same theme design as 5 Dinars

    5,000 were struck (some with Matte finish: some with mirror finish).


    LEBANON:

    Lebanon's Three Denominations of Millennium Coinage begins with the

    No coins minted in 2000
