Maybe the oldest error coin you never knew existed - Episode 13

As you probably know, especially if you collect ancient coins, the owl is the first animal placed on a coin and this silver tetradrachm was struck somewhere between 118 and 117 B.C. This coin had high relief and is free of errors. Take a look courtesy of Coin Archives:

ATTICA, ATHENS, GREEK CITY STATE SILVER TETRADRACHM - CIRCA 118/7 NON ERROR

This is the same coin, but was issued with an error on its reverse (owl side). The text gives us the names of three magistrates. The error occurs within the name of the middle magistrate being that the terminal phi resembles an iota (Coin Archives photo):

ATTICA, ATHENS, GREEK CITY STATE SILVER TETRADRACHM - CIRCA 118/7 ERROR

    Pretty old error, right?

    To be Continued
