Now that you know the coin described and shown is a 1982 George Washington 250th Anniversary of Birth Commemorative Silver Half Dollar, who designed the coin?

1st Hint: Designer's initials on both obverse and reverse (EJ).

2nd Hint: Designer was Chief Sculptor and Engraver of the US Mint in 1982.

3rd Hint: Designer is a woman.

Miss Jones' devotion to relief portraits aided her in her medal creations of Albert Schweitzer, Pablo Picasso, Pope John Paul ll, and Nelson Rockefeller among others.

By the way, three of those coins she designed at the Mint won the International Coin of the Year Award.

Something else you may not know about Miss Jones and the post she held. She was the only woman to be Chief Engraver of the US Mint and the last person to hold that post for 15 years.

After her resignation, the post of Chief Engraver was left vacant for 15 years until John Mrcanti was appointed to the post on May 19, 2006
