Roman Silver Denarius 8-7 B.C. In an earlier post we learned Augustus was Imperator of the Roman Empire from 27 B.C. to A.D. 14. We also learned he adopted his grandsons as sons and heirs to the throne. We also learned those adoptives were featured on many of the coins struck during Augustus' rule. This coin is no exceptrion. The coin is a silver Denarius produced by the Lugdunum Mint circa 8-7 B.C. The obverse bears the laureate head of Ceasar Augustus facing right; The reverse features Gaius Caesar (adopted grandson) astride a horse galloping right. In the background is Rome's legionary eagle between two standards.
