If you've ever purchased a coin from Joel Anderson, you look forward to receiving an issue of his "Interesting Stuff Catalog." It's usually sent biseasonally (Winter - Spring, Summer - Fall). There is a paragraph in his Summer - Fall issue that reads: "CHECK INTO THIS! Orders over $50 paid with a CHECK OR MONEY ORDER at the time the order is placed will get one of our bi-metallic Good for $3 in trade tokens FREE UPON REQUEST. The token may be used as a $3 payment on a future order or kept for your collection. Please request the token when ordering The token is also available for purchase at face value ($3) for use as a gift, refund, or to collect." A visit to the main page of Coin Dealer Anderson's web site (www.joelscoins.com) brings us to an announcement that 20ll is the 41st Anniversary of his coin business. A further look into his offerings let's us see images of the 2011 Token along with text: NOTE: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The subject items in this article are offered for sale, but this article was written to inform you of their existence and in no way should presume that I recommend the items, Joel's Coins or the prices tendered nor do I imply the opposite. My purchases from Joels Coins have all been completely satisfactory and I will contine my association as a customer with his firm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here's that excerpt from the catalog: "We recently released our own bi-metallic token that is Good For $3.00 in Trade. The 28mm token has a nickel-plated outer ring with a 18mm brass center plug. It has a partially reeded edge. The obverse features a frosted facsimile of a Chinese K’ai YuanHYPERLINK "china.htm" \l "kaiyuan" cash coin on the plug. The Kai Yuan coin was issued by the Tang Dynasty in China from 618 to 907AD and serves as our logo. Around the ring is our name, web address and postal address. The reverse has the legend "GOOD FOR THREE DOLLARS IN TRADE" on the ring and the denomination on the plug. The tokens were struck by Moffatt & Co. Inc. of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The mintage is 1000 pieces. The tokens may be purchased at face value for use as gift certificates, requested in place of a refund or added to your collection. We also expect to use them in some promotions. They may be redeemed at any time for merchandise from our website, catalogs or at our table at coin shows that we attend." Here's the coin image accompanying the text: http://www.joelscoins.com/tokens.htm#token3 If you scroll up one paragraph above the $3 token, you'll see Joel issued a pair of elongated 40th Anniversary Coins in 2010 utilizing previous issued tokens. If you scroll down one paragraph past the 2011 41st Anniversary Token you'll see Joel's 25th Anniversary (1995) Token valued at $2.50.
