Are you going to acquire a collection of the new United States 1 ounce America Eagle Proofs?

You have a chance to be one of the first coin collectors to amass a ground-breaking coin collection that features the first new designs in a brand new six-year program that commemorates the core concepts of American democracy engulfing the six principles of the Preamble of the United States Constitution.

The first proof Platinum Eagle of this series went on sale December 3, 2009 That first coin's design depicts four faces representing the diversity of our Nation, with the clothing and hair weaving together symbolizing the principle, "To Form a More Perfect Union." A new design element, an American Eagle "privy mark," has been added to the reverse of the coin. The privy mark is from an original "coin punch" archived by the United States Mint at Philadelphia.

Themes for the reverse designs in the new series of American Eagle One-Ounce Platinum Proof Coins are inspired by narratives prepared by the Chief Justice of the United States, John G. Roberts, Jr., at the request of the United States Mint. Upcoming coin designs will reflect the remaining principles of the Preamble and will be released as follows: To "Establish Justice" (2010); To "Insure Domestic Tranquility" (2011); "To Provide for the Common Defense" (2012); "To Promote General Welfare" (2013); and "To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity" (2014).

Nice info. I recently picked up a 1/4 oz 1998 platinum eagle PCGS PR69 for well under $400 so I thought it was a steal. That's the only platinum I own.

    Hi poppa501...

Though I don't own any, I thought it was a USA numismatic historical event for one of our "bullion" coins to bear a Privy Mark. I, also, wanted to personally welcome you to the growing list of collectors who commented on one of my "trivia" posts...

Thanks again for a great post

Thanks again for a great post.

I know nothing about this Platinum series. For a complete set is there 1/4, 1/2, and 1 ounce in both proof & uncirculated? I'll go to the Mint's Website & see what's up.

    Hi Collect89...

That's where I discovered the "privy mark" series. Too bad I didn't discover them before the first coin was issued in December. Better late than never!
