An Error Coin You May Not Know Exists - Episode 11

Even Russia, during the era of Catherine I (1725-1727) hammered out error coins as testified by this photo of a Russian 1726 5 Kopecks. Before you see the error coin, let me explain that some numismatic historians point out the fact that some Russian Minters purposely struck coins to order for royalty, dignataries, and wealthy coin collectors. These scholars have doubts that all the so-called errors were, in fact, errors.

Here's a photo (courtesy of Sixbid) showing a 1726 5 Kopeck as it should appear:

Here's a photo (courtesy of Coin Archives) of the error coin whose date reads 1275 instead of 1726:

Did you enjoy seeing this error?

    Clinker,
I love to read your little tidbits and trivia about coins that many of us would never stumble upon in the pursuit of our numismatic hobby. Good work!
