http://cgi.ebay.com/1901-Morgan-Dol...369589625QQcategoryZ39466QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem PNGS certified, the coin is one letter off from PCGS, and the holder looks extremely similar to the NGC holder. I bet a couple of newbies have gotten screwed on this one.
NOT this newbie. I caught the PNGS the first time I saw it. And thanks to this forum I skip even looking at auctions where I can not judge the coin in the holder. Might miss a good buy, but why take the chance. Still learning!!!!
This guy is bad. Did you notice the NO RETURN policy for slabbed coins. If coins are authenicated and slabbed, why shouldn't you be able to return them? Because its a fraud!!!! Of sorts.
To give the guy credit, at least he states that it's a new company slabing the coin. But it's obvious that PNGS is designed to ride on PCGS name. If they are fair then why the semi-deception? Just my opinion.
Ah ha. As long as he doesn't get confused with SGS I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Although I don't see an AU58 on that Morgan.
Please be advised that our new web address is "WWW.NGSCOIN.COM" We will also change our coin holder to read "NGS" "Numismatic Grading Service" We reached an agreement with "NGC" to remove the letter "P" from "PNGS" due to the confusion with "NGC" &"PNG" I wonder if NGC sued, or if they paid them off?
From what I understand, a call from NGC's lawyer remedied the situation and no legal action was necessary.
I think if I simply glanced at that holder, without thinking twice, I would have assumed it was an NGC holder. Thankfully, I think anyone will study a coin a little more before buying it.
Watch, someone on ebay will be selling coins in the "old" PNGS holders for a premium due to their rareity.
Thanks for the tip on the names out there. One more thing to watch out for. Sort of like the wave of batteries lately like Dinocell and others similar.
If so they should fire that lawyer. A holder that looks similar to an NGC holder (in hand it obviously isn't very similar at all.) but with the name PNGS. After lawyer it's a slab that looks like an NGC holder but will now say NGS. Now I may be crazy but to me NGS looks more like NGC than PNGS does. Oh and Numismatic Guarantee has a sister company NCS. Hmmm NCS, NGS. Yep, that lawyer did a real good job didn't he.
