So this is the emperor that got list in the mail, it had the Juno reverse so with the refund I got I ended up getting this one, about $10 less then the lost one no less. I happen to like this one better. Trebonianus Gallus (251 - 253 A.D.) AR antoninianus O: IMP CAE C VIB TREB GALLVS AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: FELICITAS PVBLICA,Felicitas standing left holding caduceus and cornucopia. Rome Mint 3.7g 22mm RIC 34 Cohen 37
Cool. I might one one of these, I honestly cannto remember. The important question is: Who was his wife and did she have any coins made?
His wife was Afinia Gemina Baebiana and there is no coins of her @VDBpenny, I got it for the low $30s, dealer sites charge double and sometimes triple that amount.
Cool addition Mat, I like the toning on the rev. I saw one listed for about $30-ish but it wasnt half as nice. Congrats,
Its there any particular period your interested in? Heres a great site you might want to check out. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/
I am impressed of how well your coin was struck despite being minted in the middle of the third century crisis. His predecessor emperor, Decius, was killed by Goths at the battle of Abrittus. His immediate successor, Aemilianus, ruled less than three months and was killed by his own troops. The next emperor, Valerian, was captured by the Persians. Not a fun time to be emperor. guy
Lol yeah I wouldnt have wanted to live through that period. Dont forget the plague during Gallus time too. This coin also has decent weight for the period, usually I see them alot lighter when it comes to him. I was gonna get his son this week but another emperor came up I couldnt pass, should be here friday or so.
Well, I was just yanking your chain a little about your empresses. I thought maybe you were just buying the husband of a lady you already had.
Without researching, can you guess why she was not made Augusta? Can you name another Roman wife that was not elevated with her husband but still has coins in her name?
