Thought some might find this interesting. Article from 1951 about treasures in your attic. here is the section int the article about coins. "Coins are another possible attic treasure Last year, when the estate of a Denver man was being settled, his son found two rolls of dimes in his safety deposit box. The dimes were new. One roll was of 1921 dimes marked “D” to show they had been minted In Denver. They were worth 30c each of triple their original value. But the other roll was of 1916 Denver mintage worth $175 or $3.50 each. An 1876 quarter minted in Carson City is worth more than $500, an 1838 half-dollar with an “O” beneath the bust more than $1,000. In recent years a 1913 Liberty head nickel sold for $3,750 and an 1804 silver dollar for $10,500. Old medals may be worth a lot, too. The medal awarded to those who took part in the famous “Charge of the Light Brigade” is valued at $10,000."
also an add from 1938 featuring mercury dimes.http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2008/01/12/just-what-does-this-word-fascist-mean-henry/
Interesting stuff ratpack, thanks for posting them. You just never know what you're going to find in these situations. I never had any luck like that, but maybe someday. Bruce
Jeez. A 1916 D Mercury dime was worth $3.50 in 1951. And I bet that roll was BU or near, since it was all the same date/mintmark. That'd be a pretty amazing roll of coins to find in an attic today.
