My trip to the CICF has been a resounding sucess. I managed to get some excellent coins at the show today. These include 1946 1/4th rupee (tiger back) MS61 1904C 1/4th rupee (p/L) MS 67 1840C 1/4th rupee MS 64 1835C 1/4th rupee MS 66 Rev I 1946 2 Annas Hyderabad MS60 1936 B (1/4 Anna) MS60 1835 Madras presidency (1/4 Anna) MS62 The bad news is indian coins have become very expensive and are virtually unavailable in high grades. I am sorry I cannot post pictures for two reasons. They have been sent of to PCGS for grading and the main reaason is no camera but overall a lot of hard work and some just rewards. Let e know what you guys thing.
Spock1k,that is a very nice lot of coins you have got there. You will have to buy yourself a camera one of these days.I've been offered a camera, which I will be picking up soon. Aidan.
Aidan, I have a camera and a very good one at that but its broken some of my best memories came with it. Yes you are right. I nee dpictures of those things in the slab as well
Spock1k,have you got a cable for your camera? You should get your camera looked at,& fixed,so that you can start posting coin photos. Aidan.
Surely, you mean a shoestring budget.I also operate on one of those myself, especially as far as coins go. Aidan.
Looks like you found some nice coins for your collection. Congratulations. Are these coins graded by you or by the dealers? 1835 1/4 Anna should be an 'East India Company' issue from Madras mint but it's not a Presidency issue. Let us know when they are back from PCGS and their assigned grades. Good luck! Regards, Ballabh Garg
Ballabh, PCGS grades them lower then thier fair grade. PCGS does not have a single coin in their pop reprt with a grade of above 66 from India. Graders themselves have told me that pcgs regularly grades ms62 as au58 as far as indian coins are concerned. The grades that i have assigned are my opinion as well as of some other experts and dealers who were present at the show. I would be surprised if the quarter rupees came back at the same grades but it is possible. Anyways i will elt you guys know.
Don't you think it's a problem. Not assigning a TRUE grade to a coin when it deserves it. Probably they don't exist. Or the collectors who has those coins, don't care to get them graded. One of the reason is just listed by you in next line. So if you want to sell this MS62 coin, the buyer will go with what's there on label and you will loose your money. And if you decide to take the coin out, you will loose the grading fees as well as you are in same situation from where you started; a raw coin. So, what's the point in getting them graded? For 1946 quarter rupee, you have assigned MS61 grade. Can you explain as why it's not a MS 60 or MS 62 coin? Are you aware of any published book which explains the difference in various grades for Indian coins? I am not aware of a single one. And without any written guidelines on grading, all those numbers on slab's label are meaningless and nothing more then one person's opinion. Regards Ballabh Garg
