:thumb: Well Doug..here is the proof...I mean proof like 2002 Netherlands Mint Long Johns Sword Swinging Dude!...by the way what does the reverse inscription mean? Nice coins... RickieB
:high5: - ya gotta love 'em The motto on the obverse - CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRES**** (union makes small things grow ) is also a symbol of that unity. It has never been exactly determined how the the legend of the reverse - MONETA ORDINUM PROVINCIARUM FOEDERATARUM BELGII AD LEGEM IMPERII ( coin of the provinces of the United Netherlands according to the law of the empire ) came to be. But it was perhaps copied from a Moroccan dinar. If you want to know a bit more about the ducat - CLICK HERE edit - dang auto edit software :headbang:
It is a two coin set..looks to be the size of the 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz eagles..but the mass is not. Nice wooden box with both coins in capsules. Thanks for the lead...they are beautiful! What an interesting article you published..in order to arive at the synopsis, how much research did you actually explore to create the article? What were your sources? Any copyright to the materials? Thank you for sharing that! :high5: RickieB
........I once knew a guy named Rickieb....who was such a nice guy....untill one day he fell over the side of the boat. He hit his head and never was the same again---we tried....but nothing helped....too bad....now he has gone to the dark side..... :hammer: :rolling: You can send a "get well soon card", if you want but I don't think it will do any good...I've seen a good many men go down that long road never to come back!!! :secret:  ..... Speedy---still where the sun is bright...the light-side!!!! :smile
That was a real informative article that Doug Prather wrote. Thanks GDJMSP for finding that and sharing it. Nice Ducat RickieB. Speedy, The darkside is always bright when gold is in hand.
LOL Speedy...and rest assured that I was saved  by my fellow "light-siders"...the force flows strong through this one I am sure! Temptation is a seductive power and even though my "whipper snapper" is not so young anymore..the fruit was sweet :eating: on the tree that was cloaked with darkness. RickieB
If both are gold pieces, one is probably a ducat (Au983, diameter ~21mm, weight 3.494 g) and the other one - shown in the picture - is a double ducat (Au983, Ø 26mm, 6.988 g). Christian
All in all I worked on the idea for about 2 years - it took that long just to locate specific books I needed. I also researched information found in old editions of Numismatist and other coin periodicals, various web sites, auction records and coin catalogs. The one thing I should have done & didn't was to compile a bibliography for the article. And yes - Copyright © 2004 All Rights Reserved.
Gxseries, could you please translate that inscription on that Rouble both phonetically in Russian & in English? Aidan.
