Hello guys, I've been thinking of posting a contest for a while. Just answer the following questions. You can find some of the answers pretty easily through search engines.
    1. Which dynasty issued the first gold coins in India?
    2. The decimal coinage was introduced in India in which year?
    3. Which is the southernmost Taluk in Trivandrum district in the State of Kerala ?(this is the place where I belong to).
    4. How many princely states were there in India approximately?
    5. Who is the present Maharaja of Travancore?
    6. Approximately how many different types of coins are in my Indian collection from 1835 to till date (Princely states not included)? I collect coins by type and not by year (but I do collect minor types as noted in the Krause). Also, I dont have much interest in the so called 'collector's coins' or 'medal coins'.
Contest ends on 15th January 2007, IST 11.00 pm. If nobody gives the exact answer, I'd send the coin to the one who gives the nearest answer. I'll send the coin by Registered Air Mail from India to the winner's address.

Okay... its time to announce the winner... Unfortunately, nobody gave right answers for all. Here's the answers:
    1. Kushan Dynasty
    2. 1957
    3. Neyyattinkara
    4. About 565 at the time of independance ( does not include feudatory states).
    5. Uthradam Thirunal is the current Maharaja of Travancore, though his is only a ceremonial chair.
    6. I know this is the most difficult one... Currently, I have 293 types of Indian coins (from 1835 to 2006) in my collection. Interestingly nobody came closer to this figure (Tom came closest - 243).
And the winner is Jayant. Congratulations!!!
The winner may PM me his mailing address..
Once again, thanx a lot for all the participants.
