i received my perth mint transformer coins in the mail today and one is a bit unusual. its missing a stripe on the chest and its blury. the first photo is a normal coin and the second photo is the unusual coin.
I'm interested to know what people think. should i return it? or should i keep it? does anyone else have one like this?

They are 'novelty' silver coins with graphics/color applied, come from the Perth Mint in Australia and these are based on the Transformers anime/cartoons, comics, toys and movies.

...oh yeah, for an incredibly low low price... NOT!

if you follow the link, it states 1 oz. silver / coin.

Just looks like a bad color job to me. I ordered some state quarters that were supposed to be "top quality", only to get 20 off-centered colored coins. Rip-off. Now, with these being from the Perth mint, you should be able to send it back for a better one. I mean, these are the Transformers are they not?

You say it's missing a stripe on the chest. Where's the chest?

On the right chest thingamagig, there is a stripe missing. It has to be just a bad color job. Or, it might be some kind of acid being applied to it. Look at the left shoulder pad. It appears that there is pitting on the shoulder.

They keep calling this thing a coin but I'm not even sure it is NCLT. I've not seen a denomination, or a claim for what country it is supposed to be for. As far as I know it is just a colorized silver round.

The link I posted yesterday to the Perth Mint says:

    Issued as Legal Tender

"Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coin bears the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse."

    "Monetary Denomination (TVD) 1"

I also ordered the 2 Transformer coins. I got them for my grandson. I received a E Mail from the Perth Mint that they are behind in filling the orders and i should have the coins around August 14. I know the premium is high but the mintage is only 5000. Not looking for an investment just a gift for the kid who likes Transformers. Who knows maybe in 50 years they may be worth something if not the coin the 1 Oz. of silver. Charlie

Would an error coin like this be worth more than an original?
The originals are climbing in value since the release... With collectors in mind, i wonder if an error coin like that might fetch higher prices?

The price on Downies and the Perth Mint have gone up since it's release and prices on ebay are well high.
Im sure once Transformers 3 hits, these things will sky rocket. Anything Transformers is extremely collectible. I mean, look at any of the old figurines - they fetch thousands of dollars in good condition!

What will they think of next?

I guess if it attracts young collectors, okay so be it...

Just because it's not appealing to you, doesn't mean it's not going to be appealing to others! Anything Transformers is highly collectible and guaranteed to raise in price.

But I do agree, they turn coins into anything nowadays - transformers, barbie, harry potter, musicians (see all those Michale Jackson ones that were released?!), and so on. The list is endless!

Have you seen any of the recent scratch and sniff coins? from memory i believe they even released a Marijuana scented one! Now if that's not overboard, i dont know what is.

Yes, I've heard of the Marijuana coin.

I think the important thing is that new collectors are attracted to the hobby :)

Until no one cares about Transformers anymore and they then fall in price.
